About us
The PTA is the fundraising arm of the school. It provides funds to purchase things not automatically covered by the LEA. It has been an integral part of the school community for many years and has raised thousands of pounds which have gone towards improving the equipment and resources available to our children. These have previously included interactive white boards, adventure playground, funding towards school trips and productions and, even smaller things such as football socks and curtains for the hall.
Some of the proposed spending for the 2009/2010 school year is:
16 laptops and trolley £8000
KS1 extra resources
SEN resources
Christmas KS1 and Summer KS2 productions
Year6 leaver’s party
Events
Throughout the school year we organise several events, these are a great way to bring parents, children and staff together in a social atmosphere and at the same time raise valuable funds for the school.
Our regular events include the Christmas Bazaar, Summer Fair and Children’s Discos as well as Quiz Nights, Shopping and Pamper Evenings.
Easy ways to help
As well as events we also have a number of ways to help which require minimum effort.
Matched Funding If you work for a large organisation they may have a “Matched Funding” scheme. As part of a Government initiative many companies will match the money their employees raise through voluntary fundraising or give a sizeable donation. For Example if you help out at the Summer Fair your company may double the amount raised for all or part of the event. Lloyd’s, HSBC, Santander, Boots and Sainsbury’s take part in this scheme, why not find out if yours will too!
Ink Cartridges We collect your empty printer ink cartridges for recycling. Last quarter we raised over £98. Just bring your old cartridges into school and put them into the boxes in the lobby by the school office. Why not ask at work and bring those in too!!
Bags2school This is proving so popular that it is becoming a regular bi Annual event. All you have to do is save your old clothes, bedding, bags and shoes put them in plastic sacks and bring them into school on the arranged collection date. The school then receives money per Kilo collected. We have been raising between £5-600 each time for this!
Phones4school We occasionally collect old mobile phones for recycling and receive money for the amount we collect.
www.easyfundraising.co.uk If you are buying things on the internet please check this website to see if the company you want to buy from is listed, as if you go through them the school can receive up to 15% commission from the value of your order.
Membership
All parents of children attending Down Hall School are automatically members of the PTA. You do not have to take on a specific role to attend the meetings everybody is welcome and we really do value your input and it is a great way to meet other parents and generally get more involved with the school.
It doesn’t matter if you cannot attend or help out on a regular basis there are always small jobs that can be done from home e.g. wrapping presents for the Bazaar, preparing raffle tickets etc. As you can appreciate all events take a lot of organising especially the Christmas Bazaar and Summer Fair so anything you can do really does help.
Have your say
If you have any ideas on events that we can hold or something you feel would be a spending area or would just like to find out more information about what you can do to help please contact the Chairperson, Tina Bridge or any of the committee members named above. Alternatively you can drop a note into the PTA post box located in the lobby area by the school office.
