We are very fortunate at our school to have a PTA that is , and has been an integral part of the school community for many years. In this time, the PTA has raised many thousands of pounds, which have been spent improving equipment and resources to enhance our children's education and the facilities in the school.
The PTA is the fundraising arm of the school, and is run by a Committee, which at present has approximately 30 parent members and 3 members of the teaching staff. All parents of children attending Down Hall are automatically members of the PTA. Joining the Committee is a great way to meet other parents and generally get more involved with the school. Attending a comittee meeting or helping in some way to organise a fundraising event can be fun!
The PTA is all about raising money for the school, and we hold various events throughout the year to generate additional funds to support the educational needs of the pupils. Some of our most popular events are the Summer Fair, Christmas Bazaar, discos and sponsored run/bounce. In the past we have had quiz nights and pamper evenings. We always try and respond to the children's requests for events and it is great to see them having fun and enjoying using a piece of equipment that the PTA have donated. It is our aim to always support the school with projects, large and small, from playground extensions, to new football socks. As well as interactive whiteboards to CD players.
We are always open to suggestions for new fundraising ideas and are very keen to welcome new parents onto the Committee. Parents are not asked to take on a specific or titled role, there are lots of ways you can assist, offering help before events or at other times during the year. It doesn't matter if you cannot help on a regular basis, or even if you cannot come to the school. There are always little jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare, e.g. wrapping presents, preparing raffle tickets etc. We really couldn't achieve what we do without the unseen help that exists in school.
You could help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use as anything is valuable.
Being a registered charity gives us some extra benefits, such as taking advantage of charity matched giving schemes and we are also able to apply for gift aid.
For further information on the PTA please contact the Chairperson, Debbie Clarke or any of the Committee members listed above.
